Maps
The next step in our investigation with maps has been looking at where we all live. I found this website called ZeeMaps that allowed us to pin point where each child (and teacher) lives. We sat down as a group and entered in each child's address using a different colored pin. Immediately, they started point out things on the map. They say the yellow lines all over the map and wondered what the numbers were for. One child saw the green parts of the map and said those were parks where people could go camping or play on the playground. We looked at where we lived compared to the other people in our class. The students were happy to see how close they lived to some of their friends. The next thing we did was calculate how long it too each of us to get to school. We saw there was a wide range of travel times. We will continue to use interactive maps to learn more about their characteristics and features.
Exploring Color
We have continued to mix colors to see what new shades we can make. We have started thinking about the color wheel and how it is a tool for us to use when mixing colors. We have painted the color wheel. The next step for us is to create a color wheel using recycled materials.
We have continued our exploration of buildings from around the world. We have looked at the Eiffel Tower, The Tower Bridge, The Empire State building and now The Great Wall of China. With each building we examine the shape, materials used and what they would need to know in order to build it.
